THE CAUSE OF THE KIDNEY ISSUE My mom has Focal Segmental Glomerular Sclerosis (FSGS), an autoimmune disease that attacks her kidneys. Her condition worsened in 2017 due to several acute attacks from environmental hazard compounded by a negligent doctor that prescribed her an almost lethal amount of Prednisone drug (see pictures above) for her kidney related issues; this sent her into renal failure. It caused irreparable damage to her kidneys. My mom was advised that legal recourse against the negligent doctor would be difficult and tremendously taxing to her already compromised health. Instead, she immediately sought better care, landing with the Mayo Clinic, an internationally renowned medical institution. She is now under the care of a team of doctors who are helping her reach optimal health.
MY MOM IS ON DIALYSIS My mom's health improved drastically thanks to the Mayo Clinic, however; the doctors determined that my mom should be placed on dialysis. This means that her kidneys can no longer function on their own and they must be assisted by a machine. In 2020, she underwent surgery that implanted a tube in her torso which she connects to a 10 lb. machine for 8-10 hours every night. My mom's health has improved greatly with dialysis but this is not a long-term solution. Here are the challenges:
The average life expectancy on dialysis is an estimated 5-10 years
The risk of infection is high (dust, mold, pet hair are all threats)
She must connect to the machine 7-9 hrs/night and cannot walk farther than a 10 ft radius during that time
Discomfort during sleep and body aches
Must abide by a Renal Diet (bananas, chicken, red meat are all potential threats)
Travel is limited as she is required to carry her equipment and have bags of fluid shipped out
